Guide to Managing Challenging Behaviours
Do your students or children have challenging behaviour that is difficult to manage?
This workshop outlines a powerful and effective model for dealing with difficult behaviours, including self injury and aggression. The Guide to Managing Challenging Behaviours training involves an introduction to broad-spectrum behavior analysis in the form of the Pyramid Approach to Education™.
Discussion focuses on the importance of addressing learners’ skill development when managing unwanted behavior. Additional key elements of the training include the description and design of effective educational environments that emphasise the use of systematic reinforcement. The link between functional activities, communication training and the reduction of unwanted behaviour is explored.
This workshop teaches participants to determine and define unwanted behavior. Participants are taught how to asses why the behaviour is happening, and are given a range of strategies to decrease the likelihood of the behaviour happening again. Finally issues related to the evaluation and monitoring of behavior plans are discussed.
You will learn how to:
operationally define behaviour
identify and conduct a functional assessment
select and teach functionally equivalent behaviour to unwanted behaviour
identify consequence-based strategies for reducing unwanted behaviour
measure, assess and maintain the efficacy of behaviour intervention
make ethical considerations for implementing behaviour strategies
