Andrew S. Bondy, Ph.D.

Andrew Bondy has over 30 years experience working with children and adults with
autism and related developmental disabilities. He served for over twelve years as the Director of the Delaware Autistic Program. He has taught numerous university level courses for teachers and specialists regarding autism, behavior analysis, curriculum design, effective instruction, and functional communication training. He has presented regional, national, and international workshops concerning educational, behavioral, and communicative issues pertaining to preschool children through adults with autism.

 

Dr Bondy has consulted to numerous school districts and private programs regarding the implementation of effective programs for children and adults with autism. He has designed the Pyramid Approach to Education as a combination of broad-spectrum behavior analysis and functional communication strategies. He is co-developer of the Picture Exchange Communication System. The system offers a unique blend of behavior analysis and functional communication training.

 


Lori A. Frost, MS, CCC/SLP


Lori A. Frost is vice-president and co-founder of Pyramid Educational Consultants, Inc. She is co-author of the PECS Training Manual. She has been the driving force behind creating this unique system that allows children with limited communication abilities to initiate communication with teachers, parents, and peers. Ms. Frost has a wealth of background in functional communication training and applied behavior analysis. She has assisted in the development of a number of training packages designed to teach language and academic skills. Ms. Frost received her BA in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Arkansas, and MS in speech and language pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982. She has worked in many public and private school settings as a speech pathologist.

 

As a Pyramid consultant, Ms. Frost has traveled across the country and the world, teaching workshops on PECS and the Pyramid Approach to Education. She has presented a number of papers and lectures on autism and communication, co-authored several articles and chapters, and is respected by professionals in her field as a leader in functional communication systems.

 


Julia Hoffman (M.Sc, SLP-CCC)

Julia Hoffman is Pyramid UK's Clinical Director. She has worked as a speech and language therapist since receiving her Master's degree in 1987 from Fontbonne University, USA. Her work experience includes serving as Programme Director at a residential treatment centre for people with autism and other learning difficulties, providing consultation and training for schools and families, and developing in-home intervention programmes for people with autism. In addition, Julia served as Director for an agency in Missouri providing on-site therapy and full-time inclusion support for children with autism attending mainstream schools.

Julia has extensive experience of consultation, training and implementing programmes based on applied behaviour analysis. She joined Pyramid UK in April 2003


Louise Maggs BSc(Hons) Speech & Language Therapy

 BSc(Hons) Speech and Language Therapy

 Louise Maggs qualified from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2009 as a Speech and Language Therapist. Her background is in the provision of therapy within mainstream and special schools.

 When working as the sole Speech and Language Therapist in a specialist residential Autism school, Louise was able to implement PECS and the Pyramid Approach across the 24 hour curriculum. She has worked extensively with parents, teachers and care staff to support the development, and functional use of PECS for students with a range of age and ability.

 Louise has also undertaken further training in TEACCH, managing incidents and challenging behaviour and developing social communication skills.

Louise joined Pyramid in 2013 and is especially interested in the use of technology to support communication and independence skills. 


Andrew Yates, BSc (Comb Hons) Psychology/Sociology, PGCE, Q

Since qualifying in 1996, at Plymouth University, with a degree in psychology, Andy initially spent three years working as a Residential Social Worker. During this time he worked in a variety of settings, ranging from working with adults with mental health issues, adults with severe learning difficulties and teenagers with Aspergers Syndrome, supporting a wide range of individual needs across a 24 hr curriculum, focusing largely on developing and implementing independence skills programs.

In 2001 Andy graduated from Bath Spa University with a PGCE and spent four years working in mainstream primary schools in Bournemouth. As a KS1 teacher Andy gained invaluable experience of implementing , assessing and reviewing the national curriculum strategies and targets, alongside developing classroom management skills.

In 2005 Andy specialised in working in Special Educational Needs schools. Since then has worked with children across all key stages with a wide array of complex needs, including, PMLD, MLD, Emotional Behavioural Difficulties, and ASD. During his time working at a setting for pupils with EBD Andy became very experienced with managing challenging behaviour and has a particular interest in developing individual and classroom management techniques. Andy has undertaken further training in the implementation of Team Teach, SCIPP, and TCI crisis management techniques.

 Whilst working within Autism specific schools, Andy has used PECS as an integral part of teaching functional communication skills.

 

Andy joined Pyramid in 2013 and is especially interested in promoting effective teaching practises whilst working with challenging behaviour, employing PECS as a means of developing communication skills. 


Hannah Stewart BSc (Hons) Autism Studies

 Hannah Stewart gained a BSc (Hons) in Autism Studies in 2016. During the final year of her degree, Hannah studied Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), which underpins the Pyramid Approach to Education and PECS.


Prior to this, Hannah’s background had been in Early Years. Hannah had spent 10 years working for a Specialist Teaching Team within a Local Education Authority. In this role, Hannah had a caseload of students that would be supported up to 3 times a week, in the home and educational settings – including both mainstream and specialist provisions. Hannah has experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and was actively involved in the Education Health Care (EHC) Plan Assessments.


Hannah has extensive experience of implementing PECS with children with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), while offering support and advice to parents and professionals, regarding development and challenging behaviour.
Hannah joined Pyramid in 2016 and is especially interested in the early implementation of PECS and the advanced use of PECS.


Sue Baker C. Psychol.


Sue Baker MBE 1947 - 2013
Sue was the Director of Pyramid Educational Consultants UK. At the end of September 2009, Sue retired. She worked as an educational psychologist in the UK for over 20 years, has extensive experience of implementing programmes based on applied behaviour analysis and has worked with many children, parents and professionals to set up and extend PECS programmes in home and school settings.

Following her organisation of the first National PECS Conference in the UK in 1998, Sue established the UK base for Pyramid Educational Consultants.

Sadly Sue passed away on 9th July 2013, she had been unwell for quite some time.
Sue was an inspirational woman, without whom PECS UK would not be what it is today. Sue gave a voice to thousands of individuals and touched many, many lives. We will all miss her as a work colleague and friend.
